Surveys coming November 27

NIPSCO wants to know how its customers and employees feel about it and its services and -- starting Nov. 27 -- it'll open the floor to the public.
Union members already have received copies of a survey the utility has passed out among employees.
The survey, according to a copy obtained by the Post-Tribune, asks questions such as "Customers believe NIPSCO does a good job responding to electric outages," "When I hear others mention NIPSCO in casual conversation, I am proud to be part of the company" and "I think a lot of customers understand what it takes, both financially and logistically, for NIPSCO to provide them good service and a reliable source of electricity."
The surveys are part of a system the company uses fairly regularly, said Tom Cuddy, spokesman for Northern Indiana Public Service Co.
"We've always done them," he said. "For example, we did one this past spring with all of our NiSource employees, and we also take part in a survey conducted by (Westlake Village, Calif.-based research firm) J.D. Power & Associates.
"We're always looking for ways to improve our service, and we count on our customers' input for that."
The J.D. Power 2006 business customer satisfaction survey ranked NIPSCO last in gas service, and second-to-last in electric service, for utilities comparable to NIPSCO's size.
The new survey will include a sampling of its small commercial customers, Cuddy said. Customers can expect to start seeing the survey starting Nov. 27; 70,000 people will receive an e-mail; and 50,000 additional customers will receive it in their paper bills shortly afterward, Cuddy said.
The survey also will be available in Spanish.
